Zeenia Junkeer, ND

Adjunct Faculty
  • Focus: Community Health
  • Education: Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine, ND, 2010

Dr. Zeenia Junkeer is a naturopathic physician who specializes in public health programs and care that directly support community members who face the greatest inequities. Her work has taken Dr. Junkeer internationally, providing an opportunity to learn how global and public health practices often create a cascade of unintended consequences when programs, policies and care fail to take into account the experiences and wisdom of the community members they intend to serve. Through her work in Haiti with Naturopaths Without Borders, Dr. Junkeer has become a champion for community health workers as trusted front-line public health advocates: experts in the needs of their own culturally specific communities.

Currently, as the Director of Community Outreach and Engagement for NWB, Dr. Junkeer works to support local capacities in Haiti and Mexico, strong collaborations and partnerships with local health professionals and continued engagement with health systems on the role of traditional medicine as a sustainable, culturally appropriate option for care. In the U.S., Dr. Junkeer works as the Community Health Workers Program Coordinator at the Urban League of Portland, and the Maternal and Child Health Project Lead at the Oregon Public Health Institute. She is also a board member of the Breastfeeding Coalition of Oregon.
