In Memoriam: Anna MacIntosh

Anna MacIntosh, PhD, ND
Class of 1989
“(NCNM)…taught everything I ever wanted to learn.” —Dr. Anna MacIntosh

Dr. Anna MacIntosh passed away quietly on Dec. 13, 2009, after a long battle with ovarian cancer. She was the first dean of NCNM’s research department and one of the first naturopathic physicians appointed to serve on the advisory committee to the NCCAM, the federal government’s lead agency for scientific research on complementary and alternative medicine.

Dr. MacIntosh was unique among her peers—and perhaps in the history of NCNM: a full-time naturopathic medicine student who also served on the NCNM faculty while completing her studies. She was honored as “NCNM Teacher of the Year” in 1987, and named “Physician of the Year” by the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians in 1999.
