In Memoriam: Damon Ziemin

Damon Ziemin, ND, MAc
Class of 2009
Dr. Damon (Johnson) Ziemin, 38, of Portland, Oregon, passed away on Aug. 17, 2010, in a tragic electrical accident while visiting relatives near Moscow, Russia. He was born on July 2, 1972, and grew up in Polson and Anchorage, where he graduated from the University of Alaska with a double major in Russian/premed and a minor in Spanish. Dr. Ziemin went on to continue his education at NUNM, graduating in 2009 with degrees in naturopathic and classical Chinese medicine.

Family and friends knew Dr. Ziemin as a Renaissance man: scientist, gardener, wildlands firefighter, chef, world traveler, linguist, musician, Trekkie and “Star Wars” fanatic, trickster and peacemaker. His enthusiasm for life was legend. Friend to many, he brought unlikely groups of people together with music and laughter around many campfires.
