Financial Aid Timeline for the 2024-25 Academic Year
Applying for Financial Aid:
- Complete the Application for Admission – Students must be admitted before a financial aid package can be awarded.
- Complete the 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), available on December 31, at FAFSA. The federal Title IV school code for NUNM is B07624. Depending on when you intend to take classes, you may need to apply for financial aid for both the current academic year as well as the upcoming academic year. If you’re not sure, please check in with the Financial Aid Office.
NUNM’s priority admission application deadline for scholarship consideration is February 1.
Once we have received your application and you are admitted to NUNM, we can estimate your aid eligibility and email you an “Estimated Award Notification” letter. This will include an estimate of the cost of attendance and your eligibility for financial aid. Estimates are subject to change.
The spring before the next academic year we will send finalized award packages. We will email out notifications that your award package is ready to view. This finalized award notification will explain the types of aid and amounts you are eligible to receive. If we need more information, it will be listed on the To Do List within your award package.
How to Apply
To be considered for financial aid, all eligible incoming students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) The FAFSA® is the application that students must complete to apply for federal student aid, which can be used to attend an eligible college or career school. Federal student aid includes Federal Pell Grants, federal student loans, and work-study opportunities. In addition to determining eligibility for federal student aid, many states, private organizations, colleges, and career schools rely on information from the FAFSA to determine eligibility for non-federal sources of aid.
What is needed for completing the FAFSA:
- Create an FSA ID for both the student and the dependent student’s parent/stepparent
- Your social security number
- Your alien registration number (if you are not a U.S. citizen)
- Your 2022 federal income tax returns, W-2s, and other records of money earned
- Bank statements and records of investments (if applicable)
- Records of untaxed income (if applicable)
- Dependent student’s parent/stepparent date of birth, social security number, marital status, and date parent was married, divorced, or widowed
FAQ
Do students still have to complete the FAFSA every year?
Yes. Because eligibility for federal student aid does not carry over from one school year to the next, students will need to fill out the FAFSA for each school year in which they plan to be a student. Eligibility for financial aid can differ from year to year for various reasons, including a student’s or family’s financial situation and the number of family members enrolled in college.
How does information transfer from the IRS to the FAFSA?
The IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) allows applicants (and their parents, if applicable) to access the IRS tax return information needed to complete the FAFSA, and transfer the required information directly into the FAFSA from the IRS. The FAFSA includes a link to the IRS if an applicant is eligible to use the IRS DRT.
What does it mean if I’ve been selected for verification?
A student can be selected for verification by either the U.S. Department of Education or by the student’s school. Verification is a process by which a student is required to submit documentation that the data reported on the student’s FAFSA is accurate. The financial aid administrator at a student’s college may make corrections or updates to the student’s FAFSA based on the documentation provided as part of the verification process.
