This position assists faculty members in the development and design of academic courses. This position provides instructional design support for the creation of new distance education courses and the conversion of face-to-face courses into online formats. This position provides consultation and training on implementing innovative teaching and learning practices to support advancing pedagogy. This position guides faculty members through an organized process for the creation of new courses and evaluates the effectiveness of course designs at pre-determined milestones in the course development process.



  • Consults with faculty members to assist with the creation of learning outcomes, activities, and assessments for both online and face-to-face courses
  • Utilizes instructional design models and pedagogical frameworks in the creation of instructional activities such as Backward design, Bloom’s Taxonomy, or the ADDIE framework
  • Manage major instructional and program development projects
  • Provides faculty members with assistance creating and maintaining instructional resources in the learning management system (Moodle) or other LMS platforms that may emerge
  • Utilizes technology tools such as Kaltura and VoiceThread to create learning experiences for students which promote active engagement
  • Promote awareness of pedagogical possibilities to build dynamic courses in partnership with faculty
  • Assists in exploring potential uses of new instructional technologies
  • Offers leadership and expertise in evaluating the effectiveness of teaching and assessment methods and making recommendations for improvement
  • Creates training and professional development materials to train faculty members in new teaching methods and pedagogical principles



At least 5 years of prior experience as an instructional designer is required. A Master’s degree in education, instructional design, instructional technology, or a related field is required. BA and significant experience can potentially be substituted for the MA degree.

Significant experience with Moodle and/or other major learning management systems required. Strong preference for prior Moodle experience. Prefer experience with additional software including lecture recording platforms such as Kaltura, Panopto, or expertise in project management.

Expertise in graduate level instructional design and pedagogical best practices

Ability to coach faculty and others in the proper structure of a course or program

Experience with student collaboration tools such as VoiceThread and video conferencing software such as Zoom, Adobe Connect, or Microsoft Teams.

Experience taking faculty members/content specialists through and entire process of online course design.

Demonstrated project management skills.

Ability to work independently.
