Institutional Research Analyst and Accreditation Officer

Institutions of higher learning constantly strive to improve programs and services. The institutional Research Analyst and Accreditation Officer oversees and provides guidance to the processes of examination of educational and operational systems and makes recommendations based upon those examinations. Interaction with administration, faculty, alumni, and students is needed to make comprehensive assessments. Understanding of accreditation, degree authorization, and other external standards is strongly preferred to ensure that assessments capture documentation needed for accurate external reports.
This position is responsible for planning and implementing a variety of assessment and institutional research-related projects for the University, including overseeing the coordination, maintenance, assessment, and supporting the Director of Institutional Effectiveness in NUNM’s institutional and programmatic strategic planning software. Independently conducts in-depth statistical analyses of project data. Evaluates integrity of data, performs data validation, and ensures the overall quality of information. As well as analyzes, develops, and communicates innovative solutions and recommendations based on data with regard to survey, assessment, and accreditation responsibility areas.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists the Director of Institutional Effectiveness with the development, maintenance and implementation of the institutional assessment plan and programmatic accreditation planning.
- Independently conducts in-depth statistical analyses of project data. Evaluates integrity of data, performs data validation, and ensures the overall quality of information.
- Advises department heads on best practices in collection of data for programmatic and student outcomes.
- Help university constituents understand data, including its use in institutional decision-making and planning. Suggest and communicate innovative solutions and recommendations for institutional needs.
- In compliance with Department of Education (DOE) requirements, is responsible for the creation of assessment tables, charts, and graphs used in the NUNM facts and figures on the university website.
- Coordinates reporting of data to state and federal agencies and serves as the institution IPEDS Keyholder.
- Ensures that data collected is well organized, thoroughly interpreted, and presented in formal written reports for review and analysis.
- Produces reports summarizing data as tables, descriptive text, and executive summaries in collaboration with the Director of Institutional Effectiveness.
- Responsible for technical creation, design, execution, analysis, and distribution of scheduled institutional survey information, (i.e., orientation survey, course evaluation software, exit survey, cultural competence survey, student satisfaction survey, and alumni survey, etc.).
- Responds to requests for numerical and narrative data from institutional departments, accreditors, and professional organizations and works with requesters to clarify their needs and optimize the utility of research results.
- Provides training and guidance on the development of assessment tools for the campus.
- Maintains computer databases, files, and records related to the institutional research function and an indexed archive of institutional information.
- Assures access by the NUNM community to the results of key assessment efforts.
- Maintains an understanding of current ideas, research and practices pertaining to institutional research.
- Participates in national assessment conferences, as budget allows.
- Co-chair the institutional assessment committee.
- Responsible for submission of quarterly IPEDS reports in accordance with DOE Title IV requirements.
- Works with the Director of Institutional Effectiveness to prepare first draft of accreditation annual reports and outside report requests.
- Participates in accreditation processes
STRATEGIC PLANNING DUTIES
- Responsible for technical operation of SPOL strategic planning software, including data entry and reports as needed.
- Assists with training authorized employees on use of the SPOL system. Verifies that departments with direct access have entered their plans into SPOL and that the plans adequately reflect planning and assessment processes. For departments who are not granted direct access, enters into SPOL departmental goals and assessment criteria.
- Assists the Director with ensuring that each planning unit head has identified departmental goals and assessments entered and ensuring outcomes have also been entered annually.
- Works with Director of Institutional Effectiveness to create annual department budget and in the absence of the Director assumes responsibility for the department in terms of accreditation.
- Serves as a member of the following university committees: Academic Operations Committee (AOT); Institutional Assessment Committee, programmatic accreditation steering committees, and other committees as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required in a field that requires substantial study of statistics and research methodology and management information systems. Examples include social sciences, public policy, statistics, applied research, behavioral sciences, education, information, or related field plus specialized training in institutional research and assessment. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in a position requiring utilization of assessment or statistical analysis skills. Utilization of assessment and research experience in higher education preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience and knowledge of higher education and organizational capability is strongly desired. Related experience in government or industry is acceptable.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Ability to design, conduct, and analyze complex institutional research data; able to develop multiple solutions to problems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis software, such as SPSS, for data analysis, data management, graphics, and word processing. Desired proficiency with student information systems, Tableau, SPOL, and course evaluation software or other similar products.
- Must have demonstrated experience working with teams and in group settings. Solid organizational and project management skills, as well as attention to detail are major assets in this position.
- Must be able to work independently and manage several projects at once, keep projects moving forward, and take initiative. Experience successfully coordinating team projects with others would be useful.
- Ability to think creatively and develop creative solutions to management information systems while managing multiple concurrent projects and activities yet maintain attention to detail with high standard of integrity.
- Ability to work accurately and independently while meeting schedules and time lines.
- Ability to establish cooperative and effective relationships for research projects and presentations.
