The CMO is responsible for ensuring the highest quality patient care in the Health Centers by providing patient-centered care and being the expert, final medical decision-maker in the health centers and ensuring adherence to best practices and all regulatory requirements. This position has a dotted-line reporting structure where all medical issues will report up to the President and all other issues will report to the VPHC. This is a 10 hour per week assignment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities:
- Make the final medical decisions in any issue that arises in the Health Centers.
- Provide patient-centered medical care.
- Provide or manage emergency care to patients.
- Provide medical decision-making support to providers, residents and students.
- Provide or ensure the provision of a complete and successful onboarding process of new providers and ensure completion of annual provider requirements (license renewal, required trainings, etc..).
- Track, respond to, and resolve any patient medical concerns or complaints.
- Monitor, research, develop and enforce best practices in medical care, infectious disease, and public health and safety.
- Ensure compliance with all clinical procedures and protocols and all governmental, accreditation, insurance, and/or other external regulations and requirements.
- Investigate and manage any patient, provider, staff, or student exposure or injury (including but not limited to needlestick, occupational issue, or pathogen exposure).
- Ensure mandatory reporting training and reporting occurs by all clinical participants as appropriate.
- Provide provider clinical practice performance feedback to the Deans of clinical programs. Complete chart audits regularly to ensure complete and accurate charting.
- Delegate tasks and duties to other staff in conjunction with the VPHC.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
ND/MD/DO degree with current OR licensure required. The individual must demonstrate experience and/or skills in the area of primary care medicine. Graduate medical education is preferred. Minimum of five (5) years of successful full-time clinical practice required. Candidates must be able to demonstrate competency commensurate with the full scope of their medical license, including pharmaceuticals, NMT, women’s health, and nature cure modalities. Candidates fluent in Epic EHR use and management preferred.
Must have at least one-year experience supervising employees. Additional degree in Chinese Medicine preferred. Experience in both academic medicine and private practice preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to apply the Naturopathic Principles and Therapeutic Order to clinical practice. Understand the principles of Classical Chinese medicine. Ability to understand and apply guidelines, policies and procedures. OSHA/HIPAA trained and understanding and ability to explain regulations. Electronic Health Record (EHR) experience.

- Knowledge of Word, Excel and Access.
- Familiarity with insurance billing preferred.
PAY AND BENEFITS
- $41.00 – $43.00 an hour Base Wage
This in-person position will be based at our campus in Portland, Oregon.
