POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Career Services Advisor is responsible for a variety of functions which assist current students, new graduates and alumni/ae to develop and enhance their professional roles. They advise the academic Deans on relevant resources, trends, and materials to include within the skills training portion of their course delivery. The Advisor compiles and makes available appropriate data base resources; identifies, develops and implements job search support and related career services including student preceptor and job placement opportunities for NUNM students, recent graduates and alumni.  This role oversees the creation, maintenance, reporting, and assessment of student and recent graduate referrals, resources, and contacts in support of job placement and professional networking. This role is responsible for ND student preceptor placement to fulfill their program requirement and assists the Nutrition internship coordinator in fulfilling nutrition internship placements.

This job has an in-person/on-campus requirement of three out of four days (75%). This position requires the employee to work with their supervisor to determine a suitable hybrid schedule.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversight of Career Services Department

  • Lead the Career Services Department to advance the career prospects of NUNM students and graduates.
  • Create and implement departmental strategic and annual work plans and contribute to university-wide planning.
  • Collaborate with the Dean of Students to manage the Career Services budget in alignment with institutional priorities.
  • Build relationships with employers, alumni, and community partners to expand opportunities for students and alumni.
  • Foster an inclusive professional community that supports student belonging and success.
  • Seek funding (grants, scholarships, stipends) to enhance student access to professional development.
  • Oversee data collection and reporting for program assessment, accreditation, grants, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure career services information is accurate and accessible across handbooks, catalogs, and web platforms.
  • Maintain and update all career services policies and procedures.

Oversight and Execution of Career Development Activities

  • Provide one-on-one career advising for students and alumni, including resume/CV review, interviewing and networking skills, and strategies for connecting with preceptors and employers.
  • Research and communicate career pathways, job classifications, and opportunities relevant to NUNM graduates.
  • Build and maintain employer, alumni, and industry connections to support internships, preceptorships, jobs, and scholarships.
  • Manage and update the NUNM Symplicity job database, ensuring access to current opportunities and staying current with job search technology.
  • Develop and deliver workshops and events on professional skills; engage external experts to expand offerings.
  • Collaborate with faculty and deans to integrate business, practice management, and career readiness into the curriculum.
  • Create and maintain digital career resources, including templates and guides.
  • Support students in the ND preceptorship program and recruit alumni participation.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably with a business focus.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in career development or higher education, ideally within a graduate medical or professional school; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Proven success in delivering career development services, including scanning professional career options.
  • Familiarity with challenges and opportunities affecting student success in higher education.
  • Knowledge of career services in higher education preferred.
  • Knowledge of state and national regulations relevant to natural medicine programs, including continuing education and accreditation standards, preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Word and Excel; comfort with technology required. Experience with LMS, CRM, and database systems preferred.
