Job Title: Adjunct Faculty – Applied Palpation and Perception

Salary: $1098/work unit (1.5 work units per term)

Term: Starting Spring 2026


POSITION DESCRIPTION:

In the course Applied Palpation and Perception, students learn key assessment, bodywork, and acupuncture/adjunctive techniques and strategies to treat a variety of conditions, primarily physical pain. Students are expected to be familiar with the underlying myofascial and skeletal anatomy of the regions covered each week in class. Through supervised hands-on experience, students develop the ability to sense and palpate the physical and energetic bodies. Students become familiar with internal and external anatomical landmarks and practice palpating the mobility and motility of various body fluids and tissues, including bone, connective tissue and organs. The process of evaluating lesion patterns from a whole-body perspective is also explored. This course continues to cultivate hand-skill perception and prepare students for bodywork and acu-moxa treatments in clinic.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Academic Education duties include the following:

  • Must be able to teach in a didactic setting, including use of active learning techniques and development of student learning objectives.
  • Will be expected to work with other teachers in team teaching setting.
  • Teach/facilitate assigned educational experiences, including such activities as lecture, and problem-based small group study.
  • Develop and manage educational and evaluative experiences for a diverse population of students.
  • Collaborate with administrators and faculty in assessment of individual teaching effectiveness and the effectiveness of the curriculum while contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Assess student learning outcomes and make or recommend appropriate course or program modifications based on results.
  • Review, update, and maintain syllabi in collaboration with other faculty and administrators in accordance with NUNM policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Post and maintain office hours as stipulated in current policy.
  • Establish and maintain student instructional records, and submit grades in a timely manner.

Complete and submit self-evaluations, reports and other documents as assigned or requested in a timely manner.

 

Scholarship Duties:

  • Adjunct faculty members are required to comply with professional continuing education requirements of their license.

 

Professional Development Duties:

  • Maintain current credentials and content expertise.
  • Maintain an awareness of new instructional technology and advances in teaching and learning theory and practice, with particular to attention to medical education, clinical education, and adult learning.
  • Maintain an awareness of new developments in the practice of natural medicine and/or other areas of content expertise as appropriate.

Participate in formative and summative evaluation processes to insure excellence and continuous improvement as an educator and clinician.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Masters or doctorate (preferred) from an ACAHM approved program. Active, unrestricted LAc license in the state of Oregon.

Clinical: Minimum of five (5) years of successful full-time clinical practice.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess the following qualifications.

  • A strong drive to serve the University and the natural medicine professions.
  • Knowledge of current trends in clinical pedagogy and curriculum development.
  • Knowledge of instructional discipline to a depth and breadth appropriate to the assignment.
  • Skill in instructing socioeconomically, educationally, and culturally diverse students.
  • Skill in using technology to effectively communicate with students, colleagues, and the community at large.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective, collaborative, and collegial relationships with colleagues, students, staff, administrators, alumni, and the public.

 

This in-person position will be based at our campus in Portland, Oregon.
