Tammy Ashney, ND

She/her
Associate Professor
  • Focus: Women's Health
  • Education: National College of Naturopathic Medicine, ND, 2009

Dr. Tammy Ashney has been with NUNM in many capacities for over 12 years, teaching in classrooms, lab classes, as a course director for the parenteral therapy and environmental medicine block course, and also overseeing interns and residents as an attending physician.   After obtaining her doctorate in naturopathic medicine, she completed three years of residency, including one year of general family practice and the subsequent two years as an integrative women’s health resident under the supervision of Dr. Tori Hudson at A Woman’s Time.  During her residency, Dr. Ashney had the opportunity to rotate with many specialties including environmental medicine, gynecology, urogynecology, gynecologic oncology, urology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, neurology, and cardiology.

In addition to being adept at Primary Care, Dr. Ashney holds additional certifications in Holistic Pelvic Care™, chelation therapy, naturopathic midwifery (didactic), and is trained in LARC (Long Acting Reversible Contraception) insertion.

Dr. Ashney completed her undergraduate degree in Anthropology and Women’s Studies and a post-baccalaureate certification in Early Childhood Education from James Madison University. Dr. Ashney is perhaps best known for her tender heart and kind, loving demeanor. As evident in her education background, she is a true lover of people and seeks to understand how to make their lives better, whether it is through her teaching methods or patient care.  Although she sees all ages of patients as a primary care provider, Dr. Ashney has special clinical interest and skill in the hormonal/sexual/reproductive health of women, chronic health conditions, and environmental impacts on health.

When not practicing medicine, you may find Dr. Ashney out exploring nature with her husband of 19 years, daughter, son, and furry companions.  Having a family with varied interests such as rock climbing, soccer, art, photography, and dance, you will just as easily find her at home behind a camera, hiking on a mountainside, or lounging in a hammock.
