Dr. Jonathan Ortiz completed his Ph.D. at American University in Washington, D.C., and his undergraduate studies at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA. His research interests include race, ethnicity, and class, ranging from theory to how racial categories are formed, passed along, and resisted.
Jonathan is an instructor of Intro to Chicanx/Latinx History, Privilege, and Oppression, and has also taught Intro to Sociology, Sociology of Diversity and, History of Race in the U.S. Since 1856. AT NUNM, Jonathan’s work includes teaching Race and Health Disparities. In the last few years, Jonathan’s work has begun to focus on issues of Equity and Inclusion at the institutional level, with a particular focus on curriculum design.
