  • Education:
    • National College of Natural Medicine, MS, Nutrition, 2016
    • University of Tulsa, BA, Psychology, 2000

Maggie Mills, MScN, is an adjunct faculty member at NUNM. She grew up in rural Oklahoma and received her BA in Psychology from the University of Tulsa, where she focused on rehabilitative program design and psychotherapeutic counseling support. After college, Maggie’s professional experience included nonprofit fundraising, instructional design, editing, project management, and corporate training. Wanting to put her unique skill set to work in a field about which she is passionate, Maggie moved to Portland to attend National College of Natural Medicine (now NUNM). While at NCNM, she served as the MScN representative in the Student Government Association, and received a Making a Difference Award for Outstanding Performance and Commitment to the School of Graduate Studies. Maggie also participated in NCNM’s Role of the Ketogenic Diet in Parkinson’s Disease study and supported youth with psychosis as part of the Meals, Mindfulness & Moving Forward program at Oregon Health & Science University.

Maggie lives in Federal Way, Washington, where she works full-time as a medical education clinical coordinator for the Institute for Functional Medicine. As an adjunct faculty member at NUNM, Maggie redeveloped the Fad Diets course to help shed light on diet culture and the weight loss industry, and to challenge cultural assumptions about the role that weight plays in health. As a nutritionist in private practice, she follows weight-neutral and body-positive approaches to wellness that help clients improve their overall health in ways that are compassionate and respectful to the self. In her free time, Maggie enjoys cooking, reading, writing, hiking, yoga, traveling, spending time with friends and family, and hanging out with her dog Charlie.
