On November 5, 2022, Dr. Bruce Canvasser (’77) received the Living Legend award by the Oregon Association of Naturopathic Physicians (OANP), an award given to true champions of naturopathic medicine. Bruce’s many accomplishments also led to him being inducted into the NUNM Hall of Fame in 2013.
NUNM is thrilled to celebrate our alumnus and to announce the Dr. Bruce Canvasser Hall of Fame Fund. We are exceedingly grateful to the Canvasser and Goldberg Families for launching this fund to honor Bruce and the legacy he continues to build in the naturopathic profession. The Dr. Canvasser Fund will support critical NUNM priorities, allowing us to maintain state-of-the-art facilities, provide healthcare to the underserved in our clinics, and withstand the turbulence of a post-pandemic world.

About Dr. Canvasser:
Bruce was among those pioneers who were part of the first 4-year National College of Naturopathic Medicine (now NUNM) class to start their naturopathic education in Kansas and then pick up and move to Portland, where they and other naturopathic physicians literally built a clinic in the Postal Building (which some early alumni may remember fondly). After graduation in 1977, he remained at NCNM as Clinic Director and Instructor in Botanical Medicine.
In his later private practice, Dr. Canvasser became aware of the need for high-quality botanical extracts and combination formulas, and this led to the founding of NF Formulas, which he led as President, and which later merged into Integrative Therapeutics, where he served as Vice President.
Bruce has been a member of the NUNM Board of Directors, and he was appointed by the governor to two terms on the Oregon Board of Naturopathic Medicine.
