My primary research interest lies in elucidating the mechanisms underlying yoga that can help develop new and edit existing treatments for voice disorders. I am also interested in investigating complementary and alternative medicine techniques with a focus on yoga to develop CIH-based treatment options for Muscle Tension Dysphonia (MTD) MTD and other voice disorders. Current standard treatment for hyper-functional voice disorders including MTD focus on voice therapy techniques. Not all patients respond to these treatments and the symptoms have been reported to return in some patients following therapy. Traditional yoga literature provides asanas, pranayama, and chanting techniques for voice improvement and rehabilitation that could be of help to many occupational voice users including those with MTD.
