Barry Oken, MD, PhD

Dr. Oken has been a clinician and researcher in the fields of behavioral neurology and cognitive neuroscience for over 30 years. He is a professor at OHSU in the departments of Neurology and Behavioral Neuroscience & Biomedical Engineering. Since 2000 he has also been the associate director of the NIA-funded OHSU Alzheimer Disease Center. Cognitive change with aging has been a significant focus of his research career. For the last 15 years he has also had a focus on mind-body medicine and stress-related cognitive changes, including investigations assessing yoga, mindfulness meditation, placebo effects, and stress effects. Dr. Oken has directed two NCCIH-funded center grants focused on mind-body medicine, aging and cognition.
