
Dr. Scott Mist, PhD, MAcOMSenior Investigator
Dr. Scott Mist, Ph.D., L.Ac., is a clinical acupuncturist and established pain researcher with continuous NCCAM/NIH funding since 2000. His research focuses on evaluating Traditional Chinese Medicine interventions for central sensitization syndromes, specifically temporomandibular joint disorders, fibromyalgia, and chronic low back pain. For the last 8 years, Dr. Mist has also been conducting translational research on light sensitivity in a TBI population.
Currently serving as Senior Investigator at Helfgott Research Institute and holding a Professorship at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), Dr. Mist has pioneered methodological advances in whole systems research over the past 25 years. His work emphasizes ecological validity through developing protocols that maintain fidelity to the investigated medical system while meeting rigorous scientific standards. Dr. Mist has developed expertise in pragmatic trial designs that both reflect clinical practice realities and generate translational findings that directly inform clinical implementation. His methodological contributions have helped address the unique challenges of researching complex interventions within integrative medicine frameworks.
