The National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM) welcomed three new Board of Directors members in 2024.

NUNM alumna Sonja Fung, ND, was elected to the board in February, while John Faubion, MBA, and Molly Huffman, JD, joined in June. Board members can serve up to nine years with the option to extend service for an additional 3-year term upon vote. The board’s annual fall meeting took place at NUNM on November 1.

“I’m honored to announce the addition of our three newest members to the NUNM Board of Directors,” said Dr. Melanie Henriksen, president and CEO of NUNM. “Each brings a wealth of experience, insight, and dedication to advancing natural medicine and integrative health.”

Dr. Fung earned her Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine degree at NUNM in 2008. She is the owner and medical director of Live Well Clinic and a primary care Naturopathic doctor, utilizing natural medicine to address the root cause of illness and create a balance of body, mind, and spirit.

As part of her professional and community development, Fung is involved in several non-profit organizations including Shay’s Warriors- Life After Cancer, and the OncANP, and previously for Women Leader’s Forum of the Desert and the Desert Cancer Foundation.

Faubion is the owner and president of Faubion Associates Retained Executive Search, a firm specializing in senior-level recruitment within the healthcare industry with offices in Portland, Oregon, and Glendale, California.

He earned his MBA from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles and has been a member of the Health Care Executives of Southern California since 1975. A fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, Faubion received the Healthcare Association of Southern California’s Award of Excellence, the ACHE Regent’s Award and the ACHE Exemplary Service Award. He has previously served as the ACHE Regent for Southern California and recently completed his term as the ACHE Regent-At-Large for District V and Member of the Nominating Committee.

Huffman is the founder of Huffman Health Law, PLC where she focuses her legal practice on providing guidance to hospitals, health systems, behavioral care providers and other healthcare organizations. She advises clients on day-to-day operations, hospital safety, HIPAA, EMTALA, risk management, medical staff matters, electronic health records, internal investigations, patient safety, and regulatory compliance matters.

Having earned her JD from the University of Richmond School of Law in 2002, Huffman has been recognized in Virginia Business Magazine’s “Legal Elite,” Richmond Magazine’s “Top Lawyers,” and SuperLawyers.

“Dr. Fung’s expertise in naturopathic practice and advocacy for holistic health, Mr. Faubion’s background in finance and strategic management, and Ms. Huffman’s legal acumen will strengthen our board’s ability to navigate the complexities of healthcare education and drive NUNM’s mission forward,” Henriksen said. “Together, their diverse perspectives will be instrumental in shaping the future of natural medicine education.”
