NUNM alumna and Global Health instructor advances naturopathic medicine globally in new officer role.

Dr. Madeleine “Abena” Tuson-Turner, an adjunct faculty member at the National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM), was named as secretary of the World Naturopathic Federation

In the new officer role, Tuson-Turner will help the World Naturopathic Federation manage administrative duties and support connections with global member organizations.

“This opportunity to contribute to the advancement of naturopathic medicine on a global scale is both humbling and inspiring,” said Tuson-Turner, who earned her Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine degree from NUNM in 2011.

“I look forward to collaborating with colleagues worldwide to promote the values of holistic care and evidence-informed practice.”

She will also work with the federation as secretary to facilitate research and advance policy within the naturopathic medicine field.

“Together, we can continue to make strides in supporting the health and well-being of individuals and communities across the globe,” said Tuson-Turner, who obtained additional degrees from the Master of Science in Clinical Research (formerly Master of Science in Integrative Medicine Research) and Master of Science in Global Health programs at NUNM.

Tuson-Turner currently leads coursework in global health at NUNM, with a research focus on global educational engagement ethics, women’s health, reproductive health justice and applications of integrative medicine globally, and works as a licensed naturopathic physician and regenerative medicine specialist.

She has lived and worked in Ghana, West Africa, part-time since 2009, partnering with the Ghanaian Ministry of Health and the University of Ghana School of Public Health to conduct research in cultural perspectives on health and healing.

The World Naturopathic Federation works with world agencies such as the United Nations and UNESCO to promote the naturopathic profession globally. Its mission is to foster growth and diversity and to ensure the highest educational standards within the profession.
