The Master of Acupuncture curriculum at NUNM combines academic study with progressive, hands-on clinical training guided by expert faculty who are dedicated to helping you become a skilled Chinese medicine practitioner. You’ll begin with foundational coursework in Chinese medicine theory, diagnostic methods, channel theory, point functions, and the core therapeutic approaches. You’ll also explore key modalities including acupuncture, moxibustion, Asian bodywork, qigong, and nutrition, detailed within NUNM’s comprehensive overview of Chinese medicine modalities.
Academic coursework is paired with essential study in anatomy, physiology, pathology, and biomedical sciences to support safe, integrative, and evidence-informed practice. Your clinical education will progress through a structured clinical education sequence that includes Clinical Theater observation, mentored skills development, and supervised internships in the NUNM Health Centers and community clinics. You’ll gain experience conducting full patient intakes, creating individualized treatment plans, performing acupuncture and adjunctive therapies, and managing ongoing care with increasing independence.
Throughout the program, you’ll deepen your professional formation through coursework and real-world practice that emphasizes ethical conduct, communication, cultural humility, and reflective clinical reasoning, preparing you to serve diverse communities in modern healthcare settings.
